Easter Announcement Almost Ready to Go

Last Christmas I wrote about how, with the help of a few friends, I put together at the last minute a poster and recording from Luke 2 proclaiming in the vernacular the birth of Jesus (I hired a truck from a local advertising company to share that recording by way of loudspeaker as it drove through every village and town in our township, and half of another).

I was away and occupied by other things for the better part of the last 2 months. But thankfully with the timely help of three friends I’ve nearly finished an Easter announcement to propagate this weekend through Monday (which also happens to be Tomb Sweeping Day in the Taiwanese Lunar Calendar):

Though using the trucks is not the most incarnational means possible, as I mentioned in my post last December it is culturally appropriate for this part of Taiwan. I want to make use of technology and every means possible not just to invite people to attend events, etc. but to do what our organization, in its name as translated into Chinese  (宣道會) says it stands for: 宣楊神的道, that is, “ make the Word of God (i.e. Jesus) widely known.” Jesus Christ has conquered death! He has risen from the dead!

Both the poster and recording once again fall short of perfection (poster contrast, cassette quality, and maybe next time I’ll have time to recruit multiple readers for different roles), but may God in His grace have mercy and use them to allow some people to hear Beautiful News this weekend who might not hear it otherwise. From Matthew 28:

… As the new day was dawning, [the two women] went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.

5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead… ”

8 The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message. 9 And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid!…

Even though I do not understand what is being said the voices are rather soothing to listen to. I hope that they sound just as good when they come over the speakers from the truck. I hate speakers squawking plus I think it would attract the people's attention more. The picture is also very nice and should make a good impression.
